I know generally the camera has to be of the same brand; ie. Canon lens for a Canon camera. I was just wondering does anybody know of a digital slr camera that can do this.

All Pentax DSLRs can use any pentax lens EVER made.
Also the IS thing the guy below mentioned. However, keep in mind that old Pentax lenses were made for 35mm SLRs, the equivalent to full frame cameras today. Pentax doesn’t have full frame cameras yet, so images’ll be cropped.

Long story short, I’ve been looking into getting a new camera later into the year. I was set on a Canon SX30 is earlier, which isn’t an DSLR camera, but I thought it would be pretty decent because of the super zoom and all of the features that it came with. I’ve heard a lot of great reviews, and for the price, it should be a pretty good deal. But lately, I’ve been interested in getting a DSLR camera. I’ve never done much photography and I’d be getting a new camera for the purposes of recording HD videos, but I’d also probably have a knack for photography if I got a new camera. I’ve been looking at the Nikon – D3100 14.2-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera and the Canon – EOS Digital Rebel T3 12.2-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera. Both seem to have pretty good reviews and Nikon and Canon are reliable. But I’d like to ask if anyone knew of any other cameras that are in a reasonable price range and have good quality. And if you have any advice about getting additional things when buying the camera, that’d be great, too. Thanks in advance.

Any dSLR is good for a beginner, since no matter what you pay for it, they all work the same, whether you pay $ 700 for the fine Nikon D3100 (which by the way has a built-in user guide) or the $ 43,000 Hasselblad H4D.
Here is how all fully adjustable cameras work. It is a balancing act using the cameras ISO, shutter speed and lens aperture settings to produce the best possible exposure.

they both have great reviews, i wanted the canon 40D but the review suggest one of the other 2 i mentioned if i didn’t want to get too technical- i need one which is good for outdoors, land scape and night maybe, i am goign to europe so i want a really good one, not to fussy and one which i can count on for great pictures all time of the day and night.
any suggestions?

Nikon’s most recent DSLR’s have what is called ‘Active D-Lighting’. It is a Adaptive Dynamic Range algorithm.

I’m going to get a Digital SLR camera for my birthday, but there are so many different models! I want a Nikon, and it has to have recording and picture options, good quality, manual focusing, ect. Basically the main functions of SLR cameras. I don’t want it to be too expensive, but also not so inexpensive that there is poor quality or not enough features. I take some photography and I would like to use it for that. Thanks for your help!

Good question. Depending on your level of comfort NIKON has several choices that do both photo and video capture. If you are newer to dslr then a good option might be the NIKON d3100. Does 1080p video with a nice sensor for image capture. While it affords the ahooter with manual capabilities its also equipped with preset modes that you might find helpful.
I personally have the NIKON d300 and bought a NIKON d7000 for my girlfriend. NIKON has an excellent range of glass to select from. Odds are however if you get the kit lens it will do everything you need. As your skills improve you can opt to upgrade glass for better quality images based on composition.

I am looking for a good but inexpensive digital SLR. I am looking on Ebay and Craigslist, because I cannot afford to buy new and still afford to get the lenses and accessories to go with it. At first I was looking at getting a Nikon or a Canon. I have always been a Nikon person and I know they make the best lenses, but the body of the camera is so expensive. And Canons aren’t far behind as far as price is concerned. So, someone was telling me that the Fuji Finepix S2 Pro takes Nikon lenses, and even though it is only a 6mp, it can be interpolated to a 12mp.
My question is for anyone that knows anything about this particular camera. Anyone that has used one, owns one or has owned one in the past.
How does this camera compare to other digital SLR cameras? I have heard that it outshines the Nikon D100. How does the interpolating thing work? How can a 6mp camera perform like a 12mp? If anyone has any examples of pictures taken with this camera, it would be awesome!

It is a good camera but has now been superceded by first the s3 (which I had) and now the s5.
It is an excellent starter camera as it can be picked up pretty cheaply compared to the latest models.
The colour rendition is better than the equivalent Nikon and Canon models but obviously not as good as the latest models.
If it is your first “real” camera then go for it.
You can always upgrade later and with the Nikon fit then the lenses will fit any Nikon should you go that way.
